ATTENTION: ALL PACKING AND PICK-UP ROLES HAVE BEEN FILLED. If you are interested in volunteering to support Reading Promise Week or other early literacy initiatives, please contact info@readingcaptains.org.
Reading Promise Week is Philadelphia’s family literacy festival and we need your help to make this year’s festival the best yet! Through community-designed, -driven, and -hosted events, we celebrate reading in ways that reflect unique cultures of literacy, highlight local resources, and intentionally address the early literacy crisis through the lens of community strengths and joy. The host partners design events that will model and share specific information, resources and activities known to help children become proficient readers.
This year’s Reading Promise Week will include roughly 50 events happening in various corners of our city throughout the week of October 10th through 16th. Families who attend a Reading Promise Week event receive a family literacy bag full of resources to help them support their child’s emerging literacy. We need your help to organize and stuff 12,000 of these family resource tote bags.
Volunteering will take place at Your Child’s World Learning Center at 6801 N 16th St in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia.
